The School of Design Strategies at Parsons presents the 3rd edition of the Urban Colloquium, a series of public conversations on alternative and innovative modes of urban practice. The Colloquium focuses on investigating the creative, radical, and subversive ways in which cities are truly shaped, by whom, and for what purposes.
Brenda Rosen is Executive Director of Common Ground, the renowned, non-profit organization in New York City that is celebrated both nationally and internationally for its success in the provision of supportive housing to homeless, disabled, elderly and low-income people. Founded in 1990, Common Ground is the biggest supportive housing provider in the nation and operates more than 2,700 units of permanent supportive housing across New York.
Brenda has devoted her career to the issue of homelessness, first as an attorney in New York City's Department of Homeless Services, and later as Director of the Prince George Hotel, Common Ground's then newest supportive housing development. Brenda studied sociology and urban studies at Hunter College in New York City, and later law at Benjamin Cardozzo Law School.
The MA Theories of Urban Practice program at Parsons The New School for Design provides an innovative pathway for students interested in acquiring a critical understanding of the design of cities and the transdisciplinary knowledge required to transform them.
